Hiking, sightseeing, and traveling are all forms of adventure. Imagine hiking through the woods on a trail. At some point, you might come to a clearing and meet a body of water. You might also look out and see what looks like a small island, perhaps 100 yards long. Can you get there? You can with a canoe!

That’s why I like to call them adventure canoes. The canoe can continue whatever adventure you’re currently on. Likewise, you can begin an adventure with a canoe by starting right at the edge of the water. Where will it take you? The answer is that you have no idea. And that’s the best part! That’s why it’s an adventure. Not knowing what is around the corner is part of the thrill of exploring.

You can canoe in every state in America. The US has 12,000 miles of waterways. That distance is massive and means a single individual will likely never run out of new places to explore on a canoe. Some of the best places to canoe are in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Missouri. We’ll dig a little deeper on these places in a future entry.

Canoes, like bicycles, come in all shapes, sizes, and prices. Stores such as REI, L. L. Bean, and DICK’S Sporting Goods sell more of the higher end brands. You can find a less expensive canoe at Walmart or online at Amazon. For adventurers looking for a discount, try shopping for used canoes on Craigslist. It’s possible to find a canoe on eBay. However, the shipping price might be a little high because canoes are so large and heavy. Whichever method is pursued, it’s recommended to shop around in person first to see what type of canoe would be the best choice.

Life is too short not to take an adventure. Canoes are one of the best ways to do that. So if you’ve never tried a canoe, consider doing so. You won’t regret it!
